Overview
The Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University ( NIU ) announces an opening for an Associate Director of the Psychological Services Center ( PSC ). Serving as the training clinic for graduate students in the Clinical PhD program and the School Psychology SSP and PhD programs, the PSC provides psychological assessment and evidence-based outpatient therapy services for individuals and families. The PSC serves a diverse range of clients from young children to older adults and a mix of university students/staff and members of the broader community.
NIU's Psychology Department is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and includes 22 full time faculty members. The Department offers a Specialist degree in School Psychology, as well as PhD degree specializations in the following areas: clinical, cognitive, developmental, industrial-organizational, neuroscience, school, and social. The Clinical Psychology program has been continually accredited by APA since 1972. While all students gain training in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral approaches, students have the opportunity to pursue a focus in child clinical/developmental or trauma psychology within the clinic. The APA accredited and NASP approved School Psychology programs train students who go onto become educationally licensed school psychologists and professionally licensed psychologists.
Position Summary
The Associate Director will facilitate the direction and operations of the Psychological Services Center ( PSC ), the in-house training clinic with the Department of Psychology. Working together with the director and the office manager, the Associate Director will be a licensed clinician capable of providing high-quality intensive supervision for graduate students, as well as providing drop-in support for students within the PSC . The Associate Director will also be integral to case supervision throughout the year, demonstrate a commitment upholding NIU and the Clinical and School Psychology program's commitment to providing access to high-quality mental health services to an underserved and diverse population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administration of Clinic
- Maintains security of and train others in protected health information.
- Monitors staff caseloads and assign new cases.
- Co-creates new clinic policy and assist with managing the clinic budget.
- Creates didactic experiences for graduate student clinicians.
Teaching and Supervision
- Provides primary supervision for students working within the Psychological Services Center in evidence-based treatments.
- Ensures that diversity and inclusion are considered in all clinical activities.
- Provides general clinic emergency coverage for outpatient hours when the PSC is open.
- Teaches specialized courses in Psychology.

Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)
- A Master's (M.A. or M.S.) in Psychology or related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the graduate level.
- Current professional license in their current state jurisdiction of practice. If licensed outside of Illinois, must be license-eligible in Illinois and licensed in Illinois within 6 months of hire date.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse clients.
- Knowledge and preparation in clinical supervision.

Preferred Qualifications (SPS)
- A Doctorate in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology from an APA -accredited program and completion of an APA -accredited internship.
- Current, unrestricted licensed clinical psychologist license in their current state of jurisprudence.
- Two years of experience and strong interest in providing clinical supervision to graduate student clinicians.
- Demonstrated commitment to incorporation of aspects of context in working with a diverse client population.
- Previous experience in providing and supervising teletherapy.
- Knowledge and skills in evidence-based trauma interventions, anxiety interventions, or assessment across the lifespan.
